South East Water completes a project designed to improve the condition of the River Hart near Basingstoke.
The project, carried out in partnership with South East Rivers Trust and guided by AtkinsRealis, focused on creating a dynamic, free-flowing body of water well connected to the floodplain and areas downstream.
The work to tackle the critical environmental issues included a fish rescue operation to relocate several good-sized trout, eliminating invasive Signal Crayfish from the site, removing an obstructive weir, and desilting the channel.
South East Water's Restoring Sustainable Abstraction Lead, Brad Evans, said: " We're pleased to complete this project, which will improve habitat and biodiversity in the River Hart and require less intensive treatment at the water treatment works.
" This project illustrates our commitment to protecting and restoring our rivers for future generations.
"As the river continues to recover, we will continue to work with South East Rivers Trust to monitor its progress and look for further opportunities to support similar projects to improve the sustainability of our local river systems."
