A £250,000 project is taking place in Broadhurst Manor Road, Horsted Keynes, to replace approximately 1.2km of water main. This new pipework will ensure sufficient pressure to the area, and secure the supply of top quality drinking water to our customers.
The existing main needs to be replaced due to a number of bursts, low pressure and water quality issues. The project started on Monday 24 October, and is expected to take five months to complete.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, we’ll need to close Chilling Street and Broadhurst Manor Road to through traffic only to undertake these works. Advanced warning signs will be in place along the road before it is closed. The diversion routes, shown below, have been agreed in conjunction with West Sussex Highways and will be clearly signed for the duration of the work.
The works will be phased within the road closure to minimise disruption where possible. Therefore the route that you will take to access your property may change as the scheme progresses along Chilling Street and Broadhurst Manor Road.
Our team will work hard to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. There will be a break in works over the Christmas period, however, the dates have not yet been confirmed and we will advise of these nearer the time.
Diversion Routes
Work will be completed in two phases:
Phase 1 – Broadhurst Manor to the junction of Chilling Street and Broadhurst Manor Road. Work will start in private land before moving into Broadhurst Manor Road in November.
Phase 2 - From the junction of Broadhurst Manor Road and Chilling Street to the entrance of Restlands Farm. We’re looking to start this phase in January 2023.
FAQs
We do all we can to minimise disruption to motorists and the community when laying new water mains and always look to install pipes in locations which will cause the least disruption, such as grass verges and when in a road, as close to the verge as possible.
Due to the nature of the road and as a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, we need to close Chilling Street and Broadhurst Manor Road to through traffic only while we carry out this work.
Advanced warning signs will be in place along the road before it is closed, and a diversion route has been agreed with the local highways authority.
Work will take place during normal working hours, although there will also be some activities at weekends.
Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times, however there may be a short wait if we are working in front of your property.
As with all of our roadworks, we will always maintain access for emergency services.
The emergency services are briefed well in advance of any roadworks and are adept at making their own arrangements to find alternative routes. This is common practice.
As the work will require connections to the existing network, there will be a short interruption in supply. We will notify you well in advance when this is due to happen.
