We have invested £166,000 to install new water mains in Alton to improve resilience in the area.
We installed 180 metres of pipeline on Chawton Park Road adjacent to Alton Community Hospital to reinforce our network to reduce the risk of low pressures in the area, with the population increasing as more than 500 new properties are being developed nearby.
This work was part of our ongoing programme to improve our water supply network and forms part of our commitment to invest £489 million improving our infrastructure between 2020 and 2025.
Work started on Monday, 22 April 2024 and a small section of Chawton Park Road was closed between Beechwood Road and Connaught Way, with a diversion in place via the A31.
The project was initially expected to last until mid-June, but our workforce worked as quickly and safely as possible to complete the project sooner, with the road re-opened four weeks ahead of schedule.

We’re pleased to say work has been completed four weeks ahead of schedule on our project to install 180 metres of new water mains to reinforce the network in Alton.
The new pipeline has been commissioned and is in service after passing water sampling and pressure testing, while the road has been returned to its original state and the closure has been lifted on Chawton Park Road.
We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carried out this vital work.

We are continuing with work on our project to lay 180 metres of new water mains in Alton this week.
The road closure on Chawton Park Road and diversion via the A31 are in place.
We have been preparing to drill the new main which we are looking to undertake this week and we are planning to make our first connection to the existing network on Thursday, 9 May, which will affect the water supply for up to 73 properties in the area between 11am and 2pm. All affected properties will be notified 48 hours in advance.
We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause and we will work to complete this as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the local community.

Our project to install 180 metres of new water mains in Alton has now started.
A road closure is now in place along Chawton Park Road, between Beechwood Road and Connaught Way, with a diversion in place via the A31.
Access to Alton Community Hospital and other local amenities will be maintained during the project, but the direction of travel and delays for vehicles may vary depending on the closure and where work is taking place.
