As part of our ongoing programme to improve our water supply network, we're installing 900 metres of new water pipe in Brookhouse Bottom and Perryman’s Lane, Uckfield.
This vital, £400,000 investment will replace an ageing and unreliable water pipe which has been prone to water quality issues in recent years and has also suffered three bursts, causing significant disruption to local residents.
Work started on 6 June and is expected to take five months to complete.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, we have closed Brookhouse Bottom and Perryman’s Lane to through traffic only. Diversion routes are clearly signed.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

Hot weather
There may be times over the coming days when you may see our teams working a little differently. With record breaking hot temperatures forecast, we are advising our teams to be mindful of the conditions, seek shade as and when necessary, or close the site early if conditions become too severe to undertake physical work. We appreciate your patience and assure you the teams will be back on site as normal as soon as possible.

Work area moves along Perryman's Lane
We've now laid approximately 670m of pipework, and are continuing service transfers to the new main.
From Monday, 18 July, we'll be moving the work area along Perryman’s Lane, which will mean that there will be restricted access between 9.00am and 3.00pm, Monday to Friday. This is to ensure the safety of our team whilst working to lay the pipe up to the top of the hill. Our team will be in the middle of the carriageway laying the new water main, and so there will be no access available during this time.
When our team leaves the site in the evening, we'll place road plates over our excavations, allowing you to use Perryman’s Lane.
