We have invested £230,000 to replace around 450 metres of a burst-prone water main and improve our water supply network in Waltham St Lawrence.

The water main along Broadmoor Road had suffered six bursts within the last five years, resulting in low pressure or no water for residents, which is unacceptable to us.

As part of this project, we have replaced the pipeline from the junction with Shurlock Road to just after the junction with Pool Laney.

See below for updates on our work as the project progressed.

Project updates

Monday, 29 April

We have now completed our work on the project, after returning to site last week to carry out the outstanding works under four-way traffic lights at the junction of Broadmoor Road, Shurlock Road and The Street.

The road has been fully re-opened and we thank the local community for its support during these essential works.

Tuesday, 16 April

We are scheduled to return to complete the work on our project in Broadmoor Road next week.

All service transfers onto our new main have been completed, but four-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Broadmoor Road, Shurlock Road and The Street from Monday (22 April) to enable us to complete a cross-connection to close the project.

Our team will work as safely and quickly as possible to complete the outstanding works.

Monday, 25 March

We have now completed all service transfers and have closed off the old water main at Pool Lane.

To complete the project, we will need to carry out a final road crossing at the Shurlock Road end, which we cannot complete at this time due to other works in the area. As such, we will need to return to site at a later date to undertake this.

We will provide a further update when we have a date of return to carry out this work.

Thursday, 14 March

We have completed the road crossing to The Paddocks, but the recent inclement weather has impacted our work and we have not been able to make the final connection to transfer services to the new main due to flooding in the area, with high water levels in the adjacent ditch caused by the significant rainfall.

This has delayed the completion of our project, but we are working hard to try and excavate to make the final connection and complete the service transfers as quickly as possible, dependent on weather conditions.

Monday, 22 January

We have now completed laying 450 metres of new water mains in Broadmoor Road, with pressure testing and sampling currently taking place, which will then allow us to commission the new water main to bring it into service.

Once this is done, we will look to transfer customer services to the new main.

The temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Shurlock Road will remain in place while we return the road to its original condition.

Monday, 18 December

We have now completed laying 420 metres of the water main in Broadmoor Road.

Our work has now been paused over the Christmas period with the trench tarmacked over and the road re-opened during the holidays, with work set to resume on site on Tuesday, 2 January.

When we return, we will be installing temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Shurlock Road to complete the final section.

Monday, 27 November

We have now completed laying more than 50 per cent of the pipeline in Broadmoor Road.

So far, 252 metres has been laid to date, with work continuing this week as we make steady progress with the project to lay 450 metres of new water mains.

Tuesday, 10 October

We have now started work on our project to replace around 450 metres of a burst-prone water main in Waltham St Lawrence.

Temporary traffic lights are now in place on Broadmoor Road near Pool Lane and we will be undertaking our first connection to the existing network on Thursday.
