Project completed
We’ve laid around one kilometre of new pipeline to replace two existing water mains in Bethersden Road and Biddenden Road, Smarden.
The pipelines were burst-prone, having required 11 repairs in the last five years. By replacing these with a new section of pipework, your water supply will be more reliable, and we can reduce the amount of water lost to leaks and bursts.

All three connections to the existing network have now been completed and we have seven customer supply pipes left to connect to the new main. We’re aiming to complete these and leave site by the end of this week, around one month ahead of programme.

All new pipeline has now been installed and we’ve completed two connections to the existing main, with the third and final connection scheduled for Tuesday 3 March. Next week, once we’ve received successful testing results, we’ll transfer all remaining customer supply pipes to the new main.

Project latest
We’ve now installed more than 1,000 metres of water pipes as part of the project and transferred all customer services on Biddenden Road.
We’ll be carrying out a further connection to our network in Bethersden Road on Thursday (19 February), when there will be a short interruption to supply.
We’ll work as quickly as possible to complete this, to minimise disruption to customers.

Traffic management change
We’ve reached the completion of work on Biddenden Road, with around 520 metres of new pipeline laid and all customer supply pipes on this section transferred.
We'll be starting to move traffic management into Bethersden Road from today, Friday 6 February. Once we've moved, Biddenden Road will be reopened and Bethersden Road will be closed as we begin to work south from the junction.

We’ve now installed around 500 metres of new pipeline. We’re waiting for testing results on this new main before we connect customer supply pipes and bring it into service. We’re expecting to move into Bethersden Lane in around two weeks and will confirm the exact date shortly.
