National Gardening Week 2024

29th April 2024

National Gardening Week is held between 29 April – 5 May by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Celebrating the love of gardening, getting together and enjoying being outdoors.

With busy day to day life, we don’t often think about the world under our feet. Springtime is the best time to get started in the garden, exploring nature and getting a step ahead for summer.

This year’s theme for National Gardening Week is ‘Knowledge is Flower’. All week, experts at the RHS will be on hand to myth-busting and demystify the wonderful world of gardening, and we’re sharing our top tips to keep your garden glowing, and the taps flowing this spring!

Whatever the weather

Collecting rainwater for your plants in a water butt, bucket or watering can is a healthier option for plants, the planet and your wallet. Plants prefer the natural untreated goodness of rainwater, as it holds the perfect balance of nitrates as well as higher oxygen levels than tap water.

If you don’t have a water butt, plants also thrive by using leftover cooled veggie water. The nutrients and minerals that vegetables lose when boiling are just what they like. You can use the water as soon as it's cool or refrigerate it for a couple of days until your plants need a drink!
