Why are we doing this work?
We are planning a scheme to install 1.4 kilometres of new pipeline in Griffin Way South.
The new water main will improve the capacity of our underground network and ensure we can continue to maintain water pressure to the area as the community grows.
Location of the work
In 2016, we carried out an extensive consultation on plans to lay a new section of water main in Station Road, Hook, however following concerns from the community, this project was postponed.
The project team has since been looking at alternative routes and has worked closely with Hampshire Highways on the revised plan which will see the new pipeline laid in Griffin Way South instead.
Work will begin at the junction of Four Acre Coppice and will continue up to the roundabout with Station Road. As part of the project we will also need to connect the new pipeline to the existing network near the traffic island off the Griffin Way South/Station Road roundabout.
To ensure the safety of both the public and our contractors, temporary traffic lights will be in operation along Griffin Way South for the duration of the work.
When will the work take place?
Construction is planned to start at the junction of Griffin Way South and Four Acre Coppice on Monday 8 January 2018 and continue south towards the Station Road/Griffin Way South roundabout.
The project is expected to finish in early August 2018.
During the Easter holidays we will move to the Griffin Way South/Station Road junction to carry out work at this busy section when there are fewer cars on the road.
Our contractor’s staff will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. Work will take place Monday to Friday during normal office hours, with some weekend working required.
Update 22 March 2018
We continue to make good progress along Griffin Way South and our working area is currently located between the railway bridge and the Bartley Way Roundabout.
During the rest of this week and next week we will be laying the new pipe towards the Bartley Way Roundabout and we expect to finish short of the roundabout before we demobilise for the Easter bank holiday.
When we return on Tuesday 3 April, we will be setting up our site to lay the new pipeline at the junction of Station Road and Griffin Way South. Traffic lights will be in place here. We are doing this work in the school holidays
when there are fewer cars on the road.
We would urge local residents and motorists to allow extra time for your journeys.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.
Update 13 March 2018
We currently have three-way traffic lights in place while we reinstate the section of Griffin Way South at the junction with Wild Herons.
This week we are laying the new pipe under the railway bridge past this junction and we hope to have this reinstated by the middle of next week. Once this section is complete, we will be working towards the Bartley Way roundabout.
We will be temporarily de-mobilising the site on Thursday 29 March for the Easter bank holiday and will return on Tuesday 3 April to the Griffin Way South and Station Road junction. We will be switching our working area to this junction to utilise the Easter school holidays to minimise disruption at this junction and carry out this work while there are fewer cars on the road. We will then continue to lay the new pipe towards the Bartley Way Roundabout.
Thank you to the local community for your continued patience while this important project takes place.
Update 27 February 2018
We have made good progress and the gang on site are reaching the junction of Wild Herons. This week we will be continuing to lay the new pipe towards the railway bridge.
On Monday (5 March) we will be starting work underneath the railway bridge. We expect to be here for a week before moving towards Bartley Way Roundabout.
We will keep you updated on our progress.
Update 13 February 2018
We have now laid the new pipeline at the subway crossing section and we have reinstated this area.
The traffic lights will now be switching to the left hand lane moving towards the junction of Bow Field. We expect to reach this junction at the end of this week or beginning of next week, depending on the progress we make.
Thank you to local residents and motorists for your ongoing patience and cooperation.
Update 6 February 2018
Work is progressing well and we are now laying our section of pipe at the subway crossing between the junctions of Ravenscroft and Bow Field.
Due to the subway structure, we expect this section of the project to take slightly longer.
We are hoping to move back into the road later this week dependent on progress at the subway crossing.
So far, we have laid over 180 metres of the new pipeline.
Update 25 January 2018
We have now laid the first 100 metres of our new pipe in the verge next to Griffin Way South and successfully connected this section to our existing water network.
This week, we will be reinstating the verge before we move into the road at the end of this week. We will be working between Ravenscroft and the subway crossing.
Update 15 January 2018
Last week we carried out work to set up our site as well as our compound near Bartley Way. We have also prepared the area to connect the first section of pipeline to our existing network. This connection will take place between 11am and 2pm this Thursday.
This week we will continue laying the new pipeline towards the junction of Ravenscroft.
Thank you to local residents and motorists for your patience while this important project takes place. We will keep you updated on our progress.
Update 3 January 2018
Work on our scheme to lay a new 1.4 kilometre pipe along Griffin Way South starts on Monday with traffic lights in place.
Please allow extra time for your journeys as traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Griffin Way South and Four Acre Coppice.
