Work on a  scheme to install a new 310 metre water main will take place along Whitehouse Lane from the junction of Rocks Lane and The Street to a location outside the property named 'Hemings'.

The new pipeline replaces an old and unreliable main that has suffered a number of bursts resulting in local people not receiving any water or suffering low pressure.

How can we ensure this work is done with minimum disruption to you?

If possible, we will be using directional drilling techniques which involves excavating a series of pits, drilling a tunnel between them underground and feeding the pipe through. This is the quickest way to install the new pipe but if this is not achievable, traditional trenching techniques will be used.

As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor we need to close Whitehouse Lane to through traffic only from the junction of Rocks Lane.

The diversion route, which has been agreed in conjunction with the East Sussex County Council Highways department, will be clearly signed for the duration of the work.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. However your normal access route may need to be changed as the scheme progresses depending on where the roadworks are in relation to your property’s entrance.

When is the work due to start?

Construction is planned to start on Monday 19 November and the project is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete, however our contractor’s staff will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

Work will take place during normal working hours, although there may be some activities at weekends.

There may be a short interruption to your water supply during this scheme as we connect our new pipe to the existing network. However you will be notified if this is to happen.

Who can I contact if I have any queries about these works?

Our contractor is Clancy Docwra and if you have any concerns during the work staff on site will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. If you would like to speak to South East Water direct please call our Customer Technical Centre on 0333 000 1100.

Update 21 November

Construction will now start on Monday 26 November, two weeks later than earlier advised, due to East Sussex Highways bridge work at Tanyard Hill taking longer to complete.

Update 18 December

Good news! The road closure will be lifted over the Christmas period but will, however, be re-instated in the New Year to allow work on this scheme to continue.

Update 2 January 2019

We are soon to undertake the connections of the new water main to the existing water network. To minimise disruption to the local area we will be doing this work at night, between 10 pm on Tuesday 15 January and 2 am on Wednesday 16 January.

During this time there will be no water or low pressure.

There may be some minor noise experienced at the junction of Whitehouse Lane and The Street, Waldron, from the use of machinery during this work. However, our contractors will keep any noise to an absolute minimum.
