Residents in Hindhead, Surrey, are set to reap the rewards of a brand-new water main.

South East Water installed more than 900 metres of pipe in the area to replace an ageing asset which had come to the end of its working life.

The new pipe, a raw water main, takes groundwater from a nearby borehole and pumps it towards the company’s treatment station in Hindhead.

It is then treated into top-quality drinking water before being pumped out towards customers’ taps.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager at South East Water, said: “I am really pleased we have completed this project on schedule.

“The old pipe had become prone to bursting and was in urgent need of replacement. The new system is now in place and ready to take water from the ground and into our treatment works.”

The water company installed new main in Tilford Road and Tower Road, Hindhead.

Temporary traffic lights were in operation to protect motorists and pedestrians from the working area but these have now been removed.

Residents can keep tabs on future planned work in the area by visiting South East Water’s interactive map.
