How rain and river water is treated and ready in just two hours for drinking is being shown when the doors of Arlington Treatment Works are opened on 28 September.

The journey of water from source to tap will start at the picturesque Arlington Reservoir at Berwick, near Polegate and continue at the nearby water treatment works.

On the free tour visitors will learn how river and groundwater is transformed into top-quality drinking water and pumped to homes and businesses.

The site treats 18 million litres of water a day – the equivalent of more than seven Olympic sized swimming pools.

Martin Davis, Regional Production Manager, said: “We really enjoy welcoming people into our water treatment works as we find that most have no idea where the water they have used for showering or making a cup of tea that morning has come from.

“It is always fantastic to see just how much people enjoy visiting us and learning about our world of water.”
