South East Water’s Distribution Manger Paul Mann said: “We are working as quickly as possible to get Downshire Way, Bracknell open to traffic.
“The water main which burst was fixed overnight and we are currently restoring the carriageway. We hope to get the road reopened by tea-time tomorrow (Friday), but it does depend on the weather as we need the road surface to set properly before we can allow motorists to use it again.
“The diversion is signposted and is via A3095 Mill Lane, A3095 Crowthorne Road, B3430Nine Mile Ride and A322 Bagshot Road.
“We are working with the emergency services to make sure fire service and ambulance vehicles which are stationed nearby are not delayed.
“Unfortunately leaks and bursts do happen on our high pressure, extensive underground network which carries 517 million litres of water every day through 9,000 miles of mains and more than six million joints. Sometimes those pipes and joints fail, but we work around the clock to find and fix leaks and bursts.
