Part of the A26 Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, will be closed from 7pm tonight (1 May) and throughout the weekend as South East Water repairs an emergency leak that is undermining the road surface.
Although the road will be closed to normal traffic, emergency services and vital hospital deliveries will have access maintained at all times.
Tonbridge Road will be closed between Halfpenny Close and Fountain Lane and is expected to reopen on Monday (4 May) 6am.
A diversion route has been agreed with KCC Highways and is signposted through A20 Leybourne, A228 Ashton Way, Malling Road to Mereworth Roundabout before re-joining A26 Tonbridge Road.
Greg Groombridge, Regional Leakage Manager at South East Water said: “We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused to motorists by the burst and subsequent road closure this weekend.
“Due to the complex location of the burst we need to close the road for the safety of the road users and our staff repairing the leak.
“We are completing this emergency repair this weekend to prevent any further damage to the road surface, which could result in a longer closure if not repaired now.
“Our interactive map at inyourarea.digdat.co.uk/southeastwater has all the latest information to keep you up to date about all our work and if you spot a leak you can also report it to us there and we will fix it as soon as we can.”
